The VK holding (former Mail.ru Group) has abandoned its own search: since November, the search field on mail.ru has started displaying the inscription “Yandex Search”.
"The update is related to the implementation of the company's overall strategy, the basis of which is the development of content services. We have tried to preserve the familiar interface for users using Yandex search and hope that the experience of using the algeria whatsapp number list new solution will be productive and enjoyable," Mail.ru support service said.
In response to Runet's request, an official representative of Yandex did not disclose the details of the deal, but only noted that the Yandex search bar appeared on the Mail.ru portal "in accordance with agreements with VK." The VK press service did not respond to the editorial staff's request.
Let us recall that from 2004 to 2006 and from 2010 to 2013, Mail.ru used Google search, and in 2007-2009, Yandex search. Since July 2013, the service has used its own search technologies.
November 2022, Yandex ranks first in the search engine market in Russia with 51.86%, Google ranks second with 45.1%, followed by Bing with 2.19% and DuckDuckGo with 0.25%. Mail.ru search ranks only fifth with a share of 0.21%. The total search audience over the past three months has amounted to almost 19.5 million people, while Yandex has a figure of 1.2 billion people.
"Currently, transitions to third-party sites from Mail.Ru search make up 0.1% of all transitions. In other words, the search bar on Mail.ru is mainly used for searching within the VK ecosystem, and for searching for everything else, users resort to the services of Yandex and Google," noted FG Finam analyst Leonid Delitsyn.
Negotiations on VK (former Mail.ru Group) abandoning its own search were held earlier, before the beginning of the 2020s, but in November 2020, Mail.ru Group (now VK) abandoned Yandex search and its placement in its advertising network. The press service of Mail.ru Group then said that the holding decided to focus on monetizing its resources through its own advertising tools.
